        My favourite thing is making brand new molecules and knowing that I’m the first person in the world to see them.

        I have a machine called an X-ray diffractometer which focuses an X-ray beam on a sample. The electrons around each atom in each molecule of the sample reflect the X-rays back at a detector. Using special computer software we can use this data to build a 3D picture of exactly what any new molecule looks like.
