        Personally I don’t think it has any impact on how effective someone is at research.

        I read a really good article on the Science vs Religion debate in Chemistry World (it’s a great magazine) which you might want to read, its very thought provoking: https://www.chemistryworld.com/feature/sciences-spiritual-side/5861.article

        There is this idea that scientists should be “unbiased”, meaning that their private life, opinions etc should have no impact on their work.

        I think it works differently in real life. We are shaped by pretty much everything: our place of birth, our upbringing, friends, hobbies, etc etc etc…religion is one of the factors. Religions tell you a number of things, among them are
        * what is good/evil
        * how was the world created?
        * what happens after you die?
        * is there an external force that decides about everything (=God)

        I cannot say if religion can impact “the effectiveness ” of the research – here it depends of how one interprets religion and what is their research about. However, I do encourage thinking how your spiritual/religious views are interacting with your favourite science discipline!

        Religion doesn’t really come into the research that my colleagues and I do, and I think it is really important that we have a mixture of people from different backgrounds with different outlooks on life all working together to give us the best possible chance of finding the answers we are looking for.

        I am not sure. My current research is not impacted by religion.
