        Hi Ellie 🙂
I love that every day I’m doing something different and I’m constantly learning new things. It is really exciting when my reactions work and I’ve made a brand new compound.
My favourite thing to do is investigate new compounds by a technique called X-ray crystallography- This is a technique where a tiny crystalline sample of your new compound is mounted in an X-ray beam. The electrons surrounding each atom in the molecule reflect the X-rays back at a detector, and from the pattern of reflected X-rays you can work out the exact position of each atom, giving you a 3D picture of exactly what the molecules in your compound look like!

My favourite thing is the intellectual freedom and flexibility in hours (I can have occasional sleep ins or PJ days 😉

I work for the public good (for the council) so I don’t have to make a profit for any boss – which I value so much.

I like the variety of challenges and that it never gets boring!

I get to travel to conferences and teach which is exciting. Been to Dubai and London this year:)
